A LarryG Sighting -- and a Holiday Greeting for you all

A Peaceful Wish

It was just another December day at the mall,
with hustle and bustle of shoppers on the verge of a brawl;
save for this small corner substituting for a northern pole,
just a scant few lingering about including one young soul.
He eagerly collapsed upon Santa’s withering knee,
itemizing presents to be assembled by elves for free.
The gray beard in the red suit listened intently,
and then chose his peace to ease the boy down gently.

“Look kid,” he said hoping this wouldn’t make him cry,
“the reality is that reindeer just won’t fly.
Leave it to your folks to wrap the games and toys;
the one gift you should seek is the hush of humanity’s noise.
For this has been a year of increasing volume,
daily news with unyielding disdain for all that’s solemn.
At this most joyous time of year,
make a wish to dispel man-made fear.

“Make a wish that religious wars surrender their holier than thou,
and not-so civil Middle East battles ignite cease fires right now.
That poorly dressed dictators choose wardrobes over weapons of mass,
and if OJ did it, his murdering memory loses his get-out-of-jail pass.
Make a wish that Britney would own a Secret or two,
and Dawson’s Katie ditches Tom in a Dianetic coup.
That Mel and Kramer soon embrace every human’s race,
and that Cheney totes his gun away to save an innocent face.

“Make a wish that Congress doesn’t turn a page,
and spinach doesn’t twist Popeye’s stomach into an e-coli rage.
That athletes pumped on juice never qualify for the big dance,
and celebrities who baby-buy overseas give storks a fighting chance.
Make a wish that racing’s Triple Crown doesn’t come up lame,
and political campaigns learn to be kinder, gentler and tame.
That Paris finds permanent recluse at a Hilton Hotel,
and energy prices hastily retreat to a less expensive Shell.”

Surely this was not what the holidays were about;
the boy was so baffled his young face could only pout.
Should he turn his back on the old man and his magical sleigh,
or forego naughty for nice and take heed in Santa’s say?
This Christmas, the boy would embrace all that is giving,
sharing jolly St. Nick’s wish with each breathing soul of the living.
And in a moment’s time, that mall would be empty, quiet and serene –
noises of humanity suddenly hushed under the din of peace’s everlasting theme.

Larry-good to see you post, am curious as to what you think of some of the 2007 releases, like Memory Almost Full and Photograph?

 Larry I am feeling is making his once a year appearance much like Jamsie, and of late mayhaps Derthy and Twister.

Steve,
Thanks for the nice well wishes. I love Memory Almost Full. Very much like John's Plastic Ono band, but minus the edge. Paul's introspection is long overdue.

As for Ringo's Photograph, well, of course I love all the songs, but half the album is Blast from Your Past. Another quarter of it is StarrStruck. The only thing really new on it is the remix of Goodnight Vienna and the out of synch Act Naturally with Buck Owens. I know, people will scream at me. Even the videos didn't do it for me. They're all on You Tube anyway, and pretty much lousy photographic quality.

What I wish Ringo would have done is a two-disc set, and include with that never before released songs (whether old or new), along with the collection here and maybe a few other tunes. Perhaps maybe his Beatles repetoirre? Just my opinion. I'm sure every Moondog here this side of Murofognir loves it.

Hope you're doing swell Steve. See you soon.
Larry

 Either Larry G is dead. Maybe he is so in Love that this place is past History. Or worst of all, he has a hag like Harry B, Myself and a few other Moondogs have had or sadly still with who forbids him to do anything but listen to her !@#$ and tell him how worthless he is. Hope all is well with Larry and his Yule Log is Christmas red from so much Lovin!

Not dead or in love....though isn't that the same thing?

Merry Christmas to all the Moondogs. Here a little wish I wrote for 2007. (It's also posted in the Rathaven.)

A Glimpse of Christmas

Embrace a Christmas sight to forever behold,
if even only a mere glimpse of what will unfold.
Now, after a long year of searing labor and noise,
at last comes a quiet solace to herald and rejoice.
Outside sparkles blankets of white amid frozen mist;
inside harbors a child-like discovery at renewal’s bliss.
For a brief moment there’s revelry in the magic of this lone day,
a celebration of what eyes long to see and heart and soul quietly pray.
Nestled under a grand tree’s rainbow lights and willowy pine,
and cradled in a hayloft’s manger beneath a star’s solitary line,
is a wondrous gift well worth four seasons of wait –
the culmination of a winter carriage ride to destiny’s fate.
Imagine soft fabrics of peace gently touching life’s senses,
finding avenues of hope where there once stood high fences.
It’s a present that unwraps yesterday, now and tomorrow –
an enduring essence of comfort that subdues all sorrow.
Open your eyes to this one-of-a-kind glimpse of Christmas fest,
and fall gently into the soft inviting warmth of its protective rest.
This is the splendor of December’s most majestic hour –
a bouquet of remembrances with poignancy as its holiday flower.
Always is the time to savor the love of family and friends,
such euphoric bonds represent the gift that never ends.
Come celebrate the wonders of a bounty to forever last –
rich offerings from those who grace our future and past.
