Re: Paul and Heather done??

Ahhh....I don't know where to start...
Let's take the producer. Nigel Godrich is no slouch so I wouldn't consider him just anybody. Not a big fan of "Driving Rain" although it has it's moments, "Chaos" is a good Paul album. If Wix is picking Paul's set list....well at least Paul is writing his own songs and they aren't done by Committee. John was more prolific then Paul to a point (up to Rubber Soul) saying he doubled Paul's output is a stretch. John more "commercial then Paul"? I assume you are talking about the period up to 1965? Look at the first Ed Sullivan show, the first exposure of the group to the US, and who gets the most facetime...5 Beatle tunes, three done by Paul, two by John and Paul.

Re: Paul and Heather done??

Paulie chasing after producers usually indicates a crisis in his confidence (remember the '80s anybody?). And to give up complete control for Paul that means either he doesn't care or he doesn't feel up to it. Neither one is a good sign that he's about to deliver the goods. That a well known hands-on boss like Paul would hand over the task of musical director to somebody else is another bad sign. (Fortunately for Paul and for us he has written a lot of good songs in the past.) Nigel Godrich is no slouch, but he'd never produced a mainstream album before, and you'd probably be hard pressed to to label any of his previous work "rock". Can anyone name a hit song produced by Nigel Godrich? Guess what? You still can't. Re: "Driving Rain", the last thing I'd ever want to say about a Macca album is that "it has its moments." I admit that I might have to admit a Macca album had its weak moments, but for a Macca album to merely "have its moments"...DOA. And "Chaos & Creation"? Really, has there ever been a mainstream Macca album more devoid of melody? Paul freakin McCartney...devoid of melody.

Go through the early Fab albums, and the ratio of John to Paul is near (if not greater than) 2:1. (If Paul ever exceeded John total wise, that would be due to the frequency of Paul's throwaways showing up in great number. Heck "Abbey Road" spared Paul the agony of having to finish several songs.)Perhaps AHDN, the album that most epitomises 1964 is almost a JL solo album.

Historians would probably tell you that from 1964-1966 there were two sets of Beatles, the English Beatles, and the American Beatles. Different experience altogether. So no big surprise that the unknown to US tv audiences American Beatles alotted more face time to the cute Beatle. Besides, John was married. But who was the most popular American Beatle during that time frame? Ringo.

I dont quite getcha on this Harry. Nigel Godrich never producing a mainstream album? Ever hear of 'OK, Computer' by Radiohead? If not, you can always look on any list of the greatest albums ever made and it'll be on there.

'Chaos and Creation' bashing? Well, no matter what you think or type, I will always like it. I think its one of his top 5 albums ever. I suppose other people liked it too since it was nominated for album of the year, single of the year ('Fine Line' although its the worst song on the album), 'Best male pop album', and Nigel Godrich was nominated for producer of the year. Sorry, but it couldnt have been as bad as you make it out to be.

As for your whole John was better than Paul attitude,,,,who cares who wrote more songs and who did this,,blah, blah, blah. I'm a Beatle fan. I like Johns, Pauls, Georges, and Ringo's solo stuff too. If you dont like some of it,,,so be it, but why try to prove your opinions when thats all they are?

I don't consider Radiohead mainstream. I doubt if Radiohead consider Radiohead mainstream. Coldplay? Mainstream. I think Nigel Godrich might have produced them, so I stand corrected on that one. Sheer logic would dictate (all things being equal) that a Paul McCartney/Nigel Godrich effort would be superior to a Coldplay/Nigel Godrich effort. I don't think Paul would make that claim.
If Grammy nominations are in indication of quality, what does that mean the C&C didn't win any awards?
But there is hope and a light at the end of the tunnel. The point I was making was not that John was better than Paul (had John lived, it is possible that he could have made two crap albums in a row), but the negative effect Yoko/heroin-Heather/alcohol had on the creativity of John & Paul. The hopeful part, not that P&H are in the delete bin, but that John's slump lasted a duration of two albums ("Let It Be" and "Abbey Road"). I think Paul's a genius. I love "Wild Life". I love "Back to the Egg". I wish him well. The next album should be great. (Bearing in mind that the man in question has written some of the meanest songs about women...well, mostly about Jane Asher.)

Re: Paul and Heather done??

Sorry for the outlash Harry (the hockey game had me riled). Anyways, the nitpicking on Paul gets to me sometimes. No matter what he does, people just sit back and wait to pick it apart like some kind of buzzards or something. I dont get it. Nobody rags on george because its too easy. Ringo gets slaughtered on the drum forums, but I pass that ignorance off because of the youth factor. John gets placed on the golden mantle because he was shot. Nobody wants to look at the facts that the guy was a bastard prick for 50% of his life. I'm sorry, but John could do wrong and he did plenty of it. More so probably than the other three put together. As for his solo career, he comes in last on my list. I'll take the other three before John in a heartbeat. I guess thats just my opinion though.

As for the grammys being an indication of quality,,,,well, to me its a source that something was recognized by the majority of the public and that it must have been recognized for a purpose whether I like it or not. Thats all I meant.

I see that you like 'Wild Life' although many have said its Pauls worst ever. I'm glad you like it because I do too. Do me a favor though and sit back only to imagine what would have been said if Paul mcCartneys name was on something like 'The Wedding Album' or 'Two Virgins'. What would the outcome have been? I imagine Paul would have been lynched in public for something like that. John got some abuse, but nothing like Paul would have recieved. It just seems that everytime Paul does something, the public wait in anticipation to pick it apart, because it doesnt seem to be the masterpiece that they were hoping for. I'd just wish he'd get a fair shake is all.
