Too Sentimental fer my own Good Mental Health!

It is ashame that we no longer can or care to keep a Home place once our elders have departed this World for a better one. It is refreshing that Maggie has so far been able to stay in her Mothers Home. I Love the Walter Brennan story/song 'The Old Kelly Place'. It is a story about passing the Home place from generation to Generation and how every Kelly that comes along can call this place Home.

It is not easy this Day and time to have emotional attachments. Usually when the kids are grown and one Parent dies then the other, most of the grown kids either have a Home or are not interested in the place they grew up. Nowadays a Home place is not the house butt whereever they set their cell phone down at night. Many people are constantly moving from one place to the other. I always admired the Indians feeling they are a part of the Land where they live.

Seems property here has increased enough in value that it is no longer feasible to keep our Parents Home in the Family and will likely have to sell it. They moved to Clay avenue as Newlyweds back in 1949. They raised 5 children and all the Grandchildren knew this as their Grandparents Home. Daddy built onto the house and nearly doubled it's size to accomodate us all. He also built the garage out back. These will surely be demolished by whomever aquires the property butt that is as they say, Progress.

I felt the same when My Mother finally had to sell My Grandmothers House in Montgomery. It needed work and the grass needed mowing Weekly and there was no way for us to do that. It was necesary butt still one of the biggest heartbreaks in My Life!

 Flim at 11!

In the next town, the current owners of our greatgrandparents' home somehow discovered we were family and might have some knowledge of the house and its construction. One warm summer afternoon a year or two ago, we carried the family photo album over for this new family to share. They were astounded and overjoyed and of course, requested duplicates of several of the pictures of the house, both of the inside and outside. Mother could also recount many details (from her childhod memories) of the "remodeling" that took place over the years of family ownership. Only wish now that those stories were taped.
It is good to know the new owners are trying to restore the property to its original design, etc.

I get sad when any old building is changed. Ballroom and Diners are a dying thing.

Re: Too Sentimental fer my own Good Mental Health!

It tis just after sunset here and the daylight is fading fast on this lovely Autumn Saturday afternoon and I am being hit with a wave of Sentimentality and Melancholy. The windows are open as it is nice and cool out. The oldest Brat, her feller and I went out for a nice lunch at a place that has alot of old advertisement signs all about. We had pie at the tables outside the building.

We then went up the skreet to one of the local pumpkin places the local Churches have. The orange gords looked loverly in the afternoon sunshine with the autumn air and crows flying around cawking. We took pictures and looked at all the pumpkins and mentioned which ones looked like Coreys skinny vd infested member. I bought a coupla small pumpkins and 3 large ears of indian corn. Do injuns like Marshall keep indian corn cobs in their Outhouses I wonder?

After many pictures we went a few blocks down to Sandi's feed and seed to get a coupla bales of hay. The old fake horse from the now long closed 'Petticoat Junction' amusement park's 'Ghost Town' now sits on top of the building.

We packed the hay in the back of the Brat-mobile and after I agreed to stop at the pet store to look at the puppies we went to another pumpkin patch thingy on the other side of town. We took some funny pictures and some touching ones there as well.

We got Home and set the hay in the front yard and put one of the pumpkins on top of it. The Brat had a belly ache so she is taking a nap. I watched Alabama barely squeek out a win then turned the tv over to the 'lawrence Welk Show'. That is really what kicked in my Sentimental Journey mood as my elders always watched him on Saturday Nights.

I put on pot of coffee (Not 'Choc-ful-o-nuts', the official sponsor of Ringo's 'Jingle Bell Rock' radio show), lit a Honey flavored cigar (they were all out of Monica Lewinsky dipped ones) and listened on the kitchen radio to the 'Breeze' am radio station that plays things that make me think of my upbringing in the 60's and 70's and my Parents and Grandparents who are now with their Lord. This station plays things like Dean Martin, Herb Albert, Ray Price, easy listening tunes I grew up on.

I looked out the back door at the Western sky at what was left of the sunset and the cool air blew in. The birds were flying to roost and the sea birds were all flying towards the shore which is two blocks from the Rat Homestead. I cut a piece of pumpkin pie to go with the coffee and sat down here.

The Auburn/Florida game is starting so I may switch it over to that in a bit. When the Brat wakes up they will want to do something. Hot Corey is sposed to be offt work but have not heard from him. I fell asleep last night about 10.30 and they could not get me to awaken to go to the Waffle House with them.

So here I sit. The dogs are all sleeping and I am chatting with Cuzzin and fellow Moondog Pinkyblister on the computer. I st the Injun corn and some little pumpkins up in the Living room and it looks loverly. Hope all is well with you and urine and hope to see some postings on here from you lot after awhile!
