Celine Thinks She's Equal To Beatle Paul?

Ahh, the petty vanities of the rich and famous. Sheesh!

Celine Thinks She's Equal To Beatle Paul
07/10/2008

(Abbeyrd's Beatles Page)- Cat fight! Celine Dion's husband-manager Rene Angelil apparently got a little snitty when he found out Paul McCartney would have 250,000 people for his July 20 show on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec and Dion would only have 100,000 for her upcoming show near the same location Aug. 22, so the capacity for both shows has been adjusted to roughly 200,000 for each, reports the StarPhoenix.
Daniel Gelinas, head of the group managing the Quebec concerts, told reporters Tuesday that calculating three persons a square metre, and expanding the site, there will be room for 170,000 to 200,000 at the site of the McCartney show.

Using the same formula, 350,000 could squeeze into the site planned for Dion's show, but not all those places have a good view. So in addition to the 100,000 holders of free tickets who will have reserved places, he said another another 100,000 to 120,000 could see Dion's show. Dion's manager was reportedly "very, very happy" with the new arrangement. Meowwwwwwwwwwwww!

Now, now,... There's no reason to get nasty.

I rather like Memory Almost Full. I like the diversity - which seems to draw from every phase of Paul's career, but without sounding tired or dated (and without losing it's cohesiveness). And I appreciate the fact that it sounds like Paul put a little more thought into the lyrics this time around (there were some lyrics on Driving Rain and Chaos and Creation that were were appalling - or, should I say, "apauling").

And I definitely think it's better than Chaos and Creation..., which had a sameness about it that tended to almost put me to sleep. But I haven't heard C&C in awhile - so, perhaps, I should give it a fresh listen, to see if my opinion of it has changed (although that never works for Driving Rain).

I even like the bonus tracks for MAF. I think they're as good as (or better than) some of the songs that made it onto the album (I felt the same way about the bonus tracks for Ringo's Vertical Man). And I cannot for the life of me figure out how "Why So Blue" wasn't part of the album proper.

I also think Paul chickened out on the ending. "The End of the End" should've been the finale - not "Nod Your Head".

Ahhh, the never ending stories about opinions.

We disagree on this one Ricketay. While I consider 'Driving Rain' (listened to it on the way to work the last couple of days) to be an average album at best, I despise MAF. 'Only Mama Knows' is the only song on that album that I think is worth a damn. Not sure why I have never warmed up to that album being the Paul fanboy that I am, but I just cant do it. It'll sit on the shelf right by 'McCartney 2'.

Ironically, I consider 'Chaos and Creation' to be one of his top three albums of all time.

Oh well.

Never-ending as they are, I usually find them very interesting (and, often, informative).

Dicussions about something as subjective as musical tastes can be both fun and maddening (oftentimes simultaneously). And that's especially true when it's the music of someone as stylistically and qualitatively diverse as PMcC.

It sounds like we share the same low opinion of McCartney II. I can't believe it's been remastered, and Wings Over America hasn't (stupid record label blankers).

Right after posting my previous piece of babbled incoherency, I decided to give Driving Rain a fresh listen (thinking maybe it was better than I remembered). But, alas, I only made it a third to halfway through it. There is so much wasted potential on that album; a bunch of good ideas that are tantalizingly hinted at, but never fulfilled. It's so frustrating! I don't hate it - but I don't really dig it, either.

I think my feelings about Chaos and Creation are similar to my feelings about DR, but combined with a sense of "Maybe I'm not listening to the same album the critics are going on about". I was going to listen to it last night, but realized I don't have it (I had borrowed my brother's copy, and never bought it myself).

I've never quite understood the negative reactions to Memory Almost Full. So, if you're ever in the mood - you being a self described Paul fanboy, and all - please feel free to elaborate (at length, even). I'm not trying to start an argument - I'm just always curious about such things. Sometimes, hearing why someone likes something can change the way you look at it, and give you a greater appreciation of it.

By the way, what do you consider the other two of his top three albums?

people need to listen to what's going on musically and not listen for the pop hooks. Paul's done that. He doesn't need that anymore. The song Vanilla Sky, in my opinion was a great leap for him artistically and musically.
As far a great Paul albums....
McCartney
Ram
Red Rose Speedway
Band On The Run
Venus and Mars
Devil May Run
Flowers In The Dirt
Off The Ground
Flaming Pie
That Russian album I can't pronounce

That far out weighs the crap. Many artists would kill to have one great album in their cannon.

Remember, Paul would release singles and not bother to include them on albums. His albums of that period would have been even greater

I love Mac II.
Temporary Secretary. And he is really singing, "Anita". She could be a belly dancer.
I would always use On the Way and One of These Days on Beatle Fantasy Tape Mixes. Nice lead guitar on On the Way.

Brings back pleasant memories of the Summer of 1980 and those few months of sunshine before The Darkness.
