For the Good Doc! A review of sorts.

'Sir Richard of James', 9who has a forum on Moondogs that is as dejected and full of cobwebs as mines) asked my thoughts on 'Ringo 2012'. I had sent him a surprise copy and he wrote asking if that was my doing (he knew of course it was). I wished Ringo might have had Klaus Vormann to do a cover for it as the title was in reference to the 'RINGO' album.

This is not a complete review but rather random thoughts and droppings. It also includes inside jokes that on Ricky would understand. So, as Mark Hudson says on 'Eye to Eye', "and, here we go"

I have read nowhere else but I noticed the drums at the beginning of the first track (Anthem) sound like the drum intro to 'Glass Onion' (not to be mistaken for 'Tapeworm Onion' by Aunt Tessresa).

On Wings, I miss the thumping bass of the original and at the end when he sings "Your love never gave me no warning" I wish he had went up an octave on the word 'Warning' than down an octave. The first thing I did was flip the cd booklet over to use the closeup of Ringo with the glasses on as it looks more like a cool Ringo cover. The one he has as the cover is dull and plain, like the last few cd's he has done (Choose Love, Y-Snot). Liddypool 8's cover was fairly cool and not just a generic photo. I also wish he has used a clever funny album title instead of the bland 'Ringo 2012'. Paul's new cd has a cool title 'Kisses on the Bottom'. Always cool to know Rango was the first rocker to do a old standards lp with Sentimental Journey.

Glad to see he is following my advice and using female vocalists again. I also think he should bring back horns to his music. I also would love to see his concerts set up like 'Bangla Desh' and 'Concert for George' with a horn section, a female backing section and such. On the dvd he credits Richard Perry with the production of the original Wings rather than Arif Mardin.

The song 'Slow Down' has a really beautiful bit to it, not sure if it is the chorus or the middle 8 as I am not up on my musical terminology. I also notice in 'In Liverpool' he revisits the instrumental bit from 'Liverpool 8'. I also ordered the vinyl version but not for you as you have been a bad boy. One reviewer noted that the songs are not as strong as they were when Ringo was writing with Mark Hudson and the Roundheads. Another reviewer said 'Ringo 2012' could have used a couple more strong songs to make it feel more like a complete record. It is a tad short for a cd.

I notice on some of Ringo's songs (especially the ones with him on piano like 'Fill in the Blanks') he uses part of the Batman theme, at least to my Vivian Poteat tainted ears. I notice that 'Rock Island Line' list ownership as 'Starling Music'. Guess Rango owns a few songs himself now.

Sadly I have missed alot of Ringo's television appearances these last few years as well as the recent HBO showings of a new Joe Namath documentary and the George Harrison documentary by Martin Scorcese. I never would have missed these before but also have to consider the Wife when watching stuff that doesn't light her fire.

I hate to admit it but on the last cd 'Y-Snot' I didn't really dig the two songs 'Peace Dream' or 'Time'. I remember your liking 'Time' at the time. It has some instrument on it that irritates me as it sounds like the same instrument you hear on a lot of those female songs on the soft music stations. Not sure how to describe it.

Well it about time for Kathy to get home so I better warsh my arse and stop and smell the armpits. So till then....

  Love Fred and Vote Pedro

Did anyone notice the drums at the beginning of 'Anthem' sound just like the intro to 'Glass Onion'?

Yep. Unless I have lost my marbles more so than usual, the drum bit after the marching at the start of 'Anthem' are the same as the intro to 'Glass Onion'.

It is the drum riff from 'Glass Onion' but we all know that now, dont we. Nice review Ratty, and Doc, I forgot to congratulate you for the Kings winning the cup. Its been awhile, but I admit that I suck.
